How to Use the Ratio Calculator

Ratio Formulas
Simplify: Divide both parts by GCD(A, B)
Proportion (find D): A/B = C/D โ D = (B ร C) / A
Scale: A:B scaled by k = (Aรk) : (Bรk)
Ratio to percentage: A/(A+B) ร 100 and B/(A+B) ร 100
Golden Ratio: ฯ = (1 + โ5) / 2 โ 1.6180...
Worked Example
Simplify 24:36: GCD(24, 36) = 12 โ 2:3
Proportion โ 2:3 = 8:? D = (3 ร 8) / 2 = 12
Divide R300 in ratio 2:3: Parts = 5; first = R120; second = R180
Map scale 1:50,000: 2 cm on map = 1 km real distance
