How to Use the Salary Calculator

  1. Monthly Gross Salary: Enter your full salary before any deductions.
  2. Age Group: Select your bracket. Over-65 employees pay less PAYE due to higher rebates.
  3. Medical Aid Dependants: Select how many people are on your medical aid to apply the correct monthly tax credits.
  4. Pension / Provident Fund %: Enter your contribution percentage. This is deducted pre-tax, reducing your PAYE.
  5. Results show PAYE, UIF, pension deduction, total deductions, net pay, and effective tax rate.

The Extended Calculator below adds monthly/annual/hourly views and a CTC breakdown chart. The Professional Calculator includes a full payslip with all deductions including group life, income protection, and bargaining council.

Frequently Asked Questions

The main deductions are PAYE (income tax), UIF (1%, max R177.12/month), and pension/provident fund contributions. Medical aid premiums may also be deducted but are not statutory.
Pension contributions reduce your taxable income before PAYE is calculated. The deduction is limited to 27.5% of remuneration, up to R350,000/year.
Gross salary is your total earnings before deductions. Net salary is what you actually receive after PAYE, UIF, pension, and any other deductions.
Medical aid premiums are deducted from gross salary. You receive a Medical Aid Tax Credit (MTC) applied against your PAYE, giving partial tax relief.
