How to Use This Converter
Type a temperature value in any of the three fields — Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin. All three update simultaneously. South Africa uses Celsius for all weather reporting and everyday temperature references.
The Extended Calculator below adds a visual thermometer gauge and reference point tables for weather, cooking, and science contexts. The Professional Calculator adds rare scales (Rankine, Réaumur, Delisle) plus wind chill and heat index.

Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply Celsius by 9/5 (or 1.8), then add 32. Example: 25°C × 1.8 + 32 = 77°F. For a quick mental estimate, double the Celsius and add 30 — it gives an approximation within a couple of degrees.
The two scales meet at −40°. Both −40°C and −40°F represent the same temperature. This is because the two formulas intersect at that point.
Kelvin is the SI unit of temperature used in science and engineering. 0 K is absolute zero — the coldest possible temperature where all molecular motion stops. It uses the same degree size as Celsius, just offset by 273.15.
South Africa adopted the metric system in the 1970s, and Celsius is the metric temperature scale. Fahrenheit is primarily used in the United States and a few other countries.
