Solar Panel Investment
Initial investment: R120,000. Annual electricity savings: R24,000 over 10 years = R240,000 total return.
ROI = (240,000 − 120,000) ÷ 120,000 × 100 = 100%
Annualised ROI = (240,000 ÷ 120,000)^(1÷10) − 1 = 7.18%/year

Frequently Asked Questions
Most businesses target a minimum ROI of 15–20% annually. SA equity markets have historically returned around 10–14% annually. Any investment should beat the "opportunity cost" — what you could earn risk-free.
ROI is the total percentage return over the entire investment period. CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) is the equivalent annual rate if growth were steady each year. CAGR is better for comparing investments of different durations.
Standard ROI does not adjust for inflation. To get real ROI, subtract the inflation rate from your annualised ROI. With SA's average inflation around 4–6%, an investment returning 10% annually has a real return of roughly 4–6%.
Marketing ROI = (Revenue from Campaign − Cost of Campaign) ÷ Cost of Campaign × 100. If you spend R10,000 on ads and generate R40,000 in sales, your marketing ROI is 300%. Include all attributed costs — creative, agency fees, and ad spend.
