Frequently Asked Questions
Use the Extended Calculator's "By Item" tab to assign individual items to specific people. Each person pays for their own items plus their proportional share of shared items and tip.
The fairest approach is to tip proportionally (each person tips based on what they ordered). For simplicity most groups split tip equally. The difference is usually small unless one person ordered significantly more than others.
SnapScan and PayFast are popular for instant payment after splitting. For tracking who owes what over time, apps like Splitwise work well. For quick one-off splits, this calculator combined with an EFT from each person works perfectly.
Simply reduce the number of people splitting. If they confirmed and the venue had a fixed menu, it is reasonable to ask them to pay their share — especially if the restaurant charged a no-show penalty.
